Dog Sled Tours In Steamboat Springs
Double T Kennel is now offering dog sledding in Steamboat Springs. Double T Kennel is owned and operated by Colorado Iditarod Musher Tom Thurston and his wife Tami Thurston. With the recent acquisition of Red Runner Dog Sled Tours of Steamboat Springs we are now giving people the opportunity to come meet our Iditarod athletes. Adventure seekers of all levels can either sit back and enjoy a guided tour or take the opportunity to learn how to run your own sled dog team.
Two Options for Dog Sled Tours!
Double T Kennel will be offering guided dog sled tours along the coast of Stagecoach Reservoir State Park located south of Steamboat. This tour is ideal for the family of four or any combination of adults and/or children where the two passengers per sled do not exceed 350lbs in total weight. The guests will either be picked up at their place of lodging or can drive themselves out to the trailhead located just outside of Steamboat Springs. Once situated at the trailhead you will be able to meet the true athletes themselves. Our guides will teach those of you who are interested how to harness and hook up a dog team. When the dogs are ready you will climb into one of our cozy basket sleds and sit back for the experience of a life time. The trail covers just over 7 miles along the shores of Stagecoach Reservoir. Along the way we will stop for photos of you and your companions traveling by dog team. After the ride guests can enjoy some hot chocolate and sweets in our warming hut while sharing tales from the trail. Then after all the dogs are put away you will be driven back to the place of your choice. The total time from pick up to return will not exceed 4 hours. Come join us for a morning run before you hit the slopes or enjoy a relaxing afternoon trip.
We will be starting tours December 1 or when we have adequate snow. Trips are run twice daily with pick-up times at either 9:00 am or 1:00 pm in Steamboat Springs. Guests will return to Steamboat Springs around 12:00 pm or 4:00 pm. Tour times are likely to change in March due to warm weather.

After you are finished mushing your dog team, enjoy hot chocolate and sweets in the cabin while exchanging tales from the trail. Trips last approximately 2 to 2.5 hours on sled with the emphasis being GUESTS DRIVING THE TEAMS.
