Races
Racing Alaskan Huskies
We began racing in 2006. After 3 years of practice and acquiring the right dogs we decided to see how our training techniques and dogs compared to others. Our main focus has always been on dog care and qualifying our athletes. We only want to train and race dogs that are willing athletes who have the physical and mental capabilities to perform at the necessary levels. The best of those who do not make it are sold to other Kennels wanting to add new blood lines or a lead dog to help improve their current team. All others lead the luxurious life as a tour dog in a local tour kennel, Grizzle-T Kennels, in Steamboat Springs or join the many dogs that live in our house.
2007/08
Our first race was the Seeley 200. We went with the hopes of top 3 but the roster of mushers had depth and finishing in the top 5 was going to be challenging enough. We took it easy for the first 100 miles and let them run home. I was blown away with the performance of the dogs. They crossed the finish line in 1st place with good style and lots of energy. To top it off my fellow mushers voted and awarded me the Sportsmanship award. This was quite and honor.
The next race was the Race to the Sky. Our goal this year was to win. We were prepared and the team was in excellent condition. We broke trail most of the race and the dogs charged to the finish line again in 1st place. The entire team was intact and 100% healthy. I had always said if I can not finish a 350 mile race with all 12 dogs I am not ready to go to the Iditarod. Well we were the first team in 25 years to win and finish with all 12 original dogs. In addition the Vet's unanimously voted and awarded us the coveted Best Cared For Dog Team award. To set a goal 4 years ago,and to do all the necessary work and acheive that goal is an indescribable feeling. Thanks to all that helped make this happen.
